Governor Mike DeWine signed Ohio House Bill 172 into law making Ohio the 49th state to legalize the use of consumer (1.4g) fireworks in Ohio for the first time ever. The bill allows the use of consumer grade pyrotechnics for only 20 days of the year on certain holidays.
The new law takes effect beginning July 1st, 2022. The new legal days where pyrotechnics will be allowed to be used in Ohio are as follows:
- New Year’s Day
- Juneteenth
- Memorial Day Weekend
- Labor Day Weekend
- New Year's Eve
- Chinese New Year
- Cinco De Mayo
- July 3,4,5 and the Fri, Sat & Sun preceding & following
- Diwali
